Rubaiyat Kabir, the officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Monitoring Center of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, has given an advance warning of a major earthquake. He gave this message to the media on Friday afternoon.

As the deadly 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Bangladesh on Friday receded, three more mild earthquakes were felt in the capital and surrounding areas in just 8 hours on Saturday (November 22). Experts say that frequent tremors are not a good sign.

Asked about Bangladesh's existing capacity to deal with disasters like earthquakes, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) professor Dr. Mehedi Ahmed Ansari said that Bangladesh has been at risk of earthquakes for a long time.

Considering the risk of earthquakes, the entire country has been divided into three zones. Among them, the high-risk area is Zone-1, the medium-risk area is Zone-2, and the area in Zone-3 is identified as low-risk. A map of the Meteorological Department identifies the country's earthquake-prone areas.

Earthquaketracker.com, an earthquake monitoring website, reported that 91 earthquakes have been recorded in different parts of the world in the last 24 hours.

In an update on Sunday (November 23), the website said that a total of 852 earthquakes have occurred around the world in the last seven days.

The first earthquake was felt at 10:38:12 am on Saturday, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was Palash in Narsingdi, 29 kilometers northeast of Dhaka. Two more earthquakes occurred on the same evening - a 3.7 magnitude earthquake at 6:06:4 pm and a 4.3 magnitude earthquake one second later.

A powerful 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the entire country at 10:38 am on Friday. Ten people, including children, were killed and more than six hundred people were injured in the earthquake. Five died in Narsingdi, four in Dhaka and one in Narayanganj. Many people jumped from buildings in panic during the earthquake, some buildings tilted and cracked. Experts say that frequent earthquakes can be a warning sign of a major earthquake. Therefore, they have advised the public to be vigilant.
