Revised gazette of referendum published
The 13th National Parliament election was held on February 12 in a festive atmosphere. At the same time, a referendum was organized to implement the July Charter and reform the constitution. In this, the voters of the country voted in favor of the government's reform initiative by either 'yes' or 'no'.
After counting the results, the Commission (EC) announced on February 13 that the 'yes' vote had passed by a huge margin. This time, about 1 million 'yes' votes have been excluded from that vote. The revised gazette has also been published.
This change was announced today (February 26). Earlier, this amendment was published through an additional gazette signed by Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, on Wednesday (February 25).
The re-published gazette mentioned that the 'yes' votes in the previous gazette were 47.225 thousand 980. From there, 974,680 'yes' votes were excluded. As of now, the number of verdicts in favor of the interim government's reform stands at 47,225,980.
The EC notification mentioned that the referendum was held on February 12 to verify the people's consent to the 'July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order, 2025' and the proposal to reform the constitution in order to exercise the sovereign power of the people revealed through the successful mass uprising of the students and the public in July-August 2024.
The results of that vote were published in the Gazette on February 13. According to the first Gazette, the number of 'no' votes was 22,071,726. The total number of votes cast, including yes and no votes, was 77,695,023. Out of these, 74,226,637 were canceled. The total number of valid voters, excluding canceled votes, stands at 72,72,386.
According to the revised gazette, the number of 'no' votes in the referendum will be 21,196,231. The total number of votes cast, including yes and no votes, is 76,621,407. Of these, 74,35,196 were canceled. The total number of valid voters, excluding the canceled votes, is 69,186,211.
Analyzing the revised results, it has been seen that 974,680 'yes' votes have decreased compared to the previous one. On the other hand, the number of 'no' votes has decreased by 111,495.
Although the valid votes have decreased, the number of canceled votes has increased by 12,559 compared to the previous one. Overall, the total number of votes cast has decreased by 10,73,616.
The Election Commission did not specify the specific reason for this amendment, but said that this amended gazette was published on the order of the commission. This referendum is supposed to finalize the constitutional validity and popular approval of the July National Charter.
