At least 5 people have been killed in Israeli air and drone strikes in southern Lebanon within hours of the ceasefire that just came into effect between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanese state media reported.

The country's state news agency NNA reported that multiple air and drone strikes were carried out in the Nabatiya area since early Saturday (June 20). Many residential buildings and homes were destroyed. At the same time, artillery shelling was also reported in the area.

Earlier, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire on Friday. A senior Israeli official and two Hezbollah sources confirmed the agreement to Reuters. According to information provided by a US official, the ceasefire was supposed to take effect from 4 pm local time on Friday.

The ceasefire announcement comes after weeks of clashes and tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. However, the situation has heated up again with renewed attacks since it took effect. There was no immediate official comment from Israel or Hezbollah.
