Five-time world champions Brazil secured their first victory of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing 3-0 win over Haiti at Philadelphia Stadium on Saturday.

Matheus Cunha, who was handed a place in the starting XI in place of Igor Thiago, scored twice for the Seleção. In-form forward Vinicius Junior added the other goal and also provided the assist for Cunha’s second strike.

The victory lifted Carlo Ancelotti’s side to the top of the Group C standings with four points from two matches. Morocco are level on points but sit second due to an inferior goal difference.

Brazil entered the match under pressure after being held to a draw by Morocco in their opening fixture. They responded in style against Haiti, producing an emphatic performance filled with goals and trademark celebrations.

Notable Records and Statistics from Brazil’s Win Over Haiti

  • Brazil have now scored three or more goals in a World Cup match on 41 occasions, at least five more than any other nation in tournament history. Germany are second on the list with 36 such matches.
  • The Seleção also moved ahead of Germany as the highest-scoring team in FIFA World Cup history. Brazil now have 241 goals, while Germany have scored 239.
  • Brazil have won nine of their 10 World Cup matches against teams from the CONCACAF region (North, Central America and the Caribbean), drawing the other. They have also kept clean sheets in nine of those encounters and scored three or more goals in four of them.
  • Vinicius Junior has now been involved in exactly six goals in six World Cup appearances, scoring three and assisting three. Among Brazilian players with at least five World Cup matches since 1966, only three have averaged one or more goal contributions per game: Pelé (11 in 8 matches), Ronaldo (19 in 19 matches) and Tostão (7 in 7 matches).
  • Ryan (19 years, 320 days) and Endrick (19 years, 333 days) became the sixth and seventh youngest players to represent Brazil at a World Cup. They are the youngest Brazilians to feature at the tournament since Marco Antonio (19 years, 128 days) at the 1970 World Cup.
  • It was only the second time in Brazil’s World Cup history that two players under the age of 20 featured in the same match. Before Ryan and Endrick, the feat was achieved by Pelé and Altafini against Wales in the 1958 World Cup.
  • Brazil’s starting lineup against Haiti had an average age of 30 years and 190 days, making it the oldest starting XI fielded by the Seleção in a World Cup match since 1962. In the final against Czechoslovakia that year, Brazil’s starting lineup had an average age of 30 years and 216 days.
