Iran has demonstrated its military capabilities in the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. The country is not only using its vast arsenal of advanced missiles and drones to counter attacks, but is also challenging modern air defense systems.

According to a report by Interesting Engineering, Iran is using its own ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and ‘one-way’ or suicide drones in response to US and Israeli attacks. These weapons are capable of hitting targets precisely over long distances and effectively challenge advanced defense systems such as the US ‘Patriot’ and Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ and ‘Arrow’ systems.

Iran’s counterattack strategy is layered and coordinated with conventional air force power. By spreading the country’s various launch sites in safe locations, Iran can continue to operate even during continuous attacks.

Short- and medium-range ballistic missiles are Iran’s main weapons. Short-range missiles are rapidly deployable and include the Fateh-110, Zolfaghar, and Qiam-1. Medium-range missiles, such as the Khorramshahr, Imad, and Ghadar, can strike up to 1,500 kilometers and carry large warheads. Newer models also have the ability to change course at the last moment to reach their targets.

Cruise missiles such as Paveh, Sumer, Hoveizeh, and Shahed drones are Iran's main weapons. They can evade enemy radar and reach their targets, and when launched in large numbers, they can overwhelm defenses.

Iran has built a network of underground tunnels called "Missile Cities" where missiles and launchers are hidden. This allows them to respond even during enemy airstrikes.

Through this combination of military tactics and technology, Iran seeks to maximize the cost and risk of war for the United States and its allies, and aims to turn the conflict into a long-term war of attrition.
