Turkey has urged Russia and Ukraine to be more vigilant over security issues in the Black Sea region. The Turkish Defense Ministry has sent a message to the two warring countries after it shot down a drone that had entered its airspace.
The ministry said in a statement that “due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, we have warned the authorities of the relevant countries. So that both sides are more vigilant about any incident that could undermine the security of the Black Sea.”
On Monday, an “uncontrolled” drone was intercepted when it approached Turkish airspace from the Black Sea. The incident came at a time when Ukraine recently attacked a Russian “shadow fleet” tanker off the Turkish coast. However, Turkish authorities have not yet released any information about the origin of the drone.
The Turkish ministry also said that after being shot down, the drone broke into small pieces and scattered over a wide area. As a result, it has become difficult to determine its precise identity. It is reported that the search and technical analysis work to recover the wreckage of the drone is still ongoing.
