US President Donald Trump has warned of more severe attacks by Iran. At the same time, he said that there is still a chance for negotiations. In addition, he claimed that the United States is taking control of the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday (July 13) local time, Trump said, "Iran has not respected the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United States." He claimed that Iran could not acquire nuclear weapons due to US military action, which would have threatened the existence of Israel.
Trump said, "We will attack them very hard tonight. They will be attacked tomorrow as well. They will not be able to do anything about it."
He also said, "They have practically nothing in their hands. They have nothing to do except talk big."
Shortly after the interview, the US Central Command (Centcom) said that US forces have launched a new attack on Iran for the third consecutive night on the orders of the president.
Threat of attack on ‘Pickaxe Mountain’
In the interview, Trump also hinted at an attack on ‘Pickaxe Mountain’, an underground nuclear facility in Iran. It is located near the Natanz uranium enrichment center.
Trump said, ‘Pickaxe could be a potential target for a major attack.’
He claimed that the United States is closely monitoring the facility and that there is currently no significant activity there. In Trump’s words, ‘Their nuclear program is not in good shape. Whenever we get any news about it, we destroy it. So they don’t want to talk about it now. Very soon we may attack Pickaxe as well.’
He also said, ‘We will destroy Pickaxe Mountain. Tell Iran to get ready.’
Pickaxe Mountain is located about a mile south of the Natanz nuclear facility. There are two tunnel systems deep underground. Experts believe that the facilities are so well protected that even the most powerful US bunker-busting bomb may not be able to completely destroy them.
