The half-time break in the final match of the World Cup may be longer than usual. It is reported that the break time in the final to be held at the New York-New Jersey Stadium on Sunday is likely to last 20 to 25 minutes.
According to FIFA's plan, a special 11-minute musical concert will be organized during the break in the style of the Super Bowl. The main attraction of this event will be pop star Madonna, Colombian singer Shakira and South Korean popular K-pop band BTS.
According to internal sources at FIFA, the half-time break may increase to about 20 minutes. However, another alternative plan is also being considered. In that case, an additional 11-minute show may be organized after the 15-minute break as per the rules.
According to the rules of the current football law-making body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), a maximum of 15 minutes of break is set for players between the first and second half.
The longest half-time break in a FIFA tournament has been seen before. Last year's Club World Cup final saw performances by Coldplay, J Balvin, Doja Cat, Thames and Emmanuel Kelly stretch the break to 24 minutes.
Meanwhile, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has recently joined the list of artists for Sunday's event. In addition to the main artists, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and Coldplay will also be joined by the PS22 Chorus. The entire event is being creatively supervised by Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin.
The World Cup final match will start at 3 pm local time in the United States. The closing ceremony will begin at 1:30 pm local time before the match.
Hollywood star Tom Cruise, Italian singer Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams and popular YouTuber Iceshow will perform at the closing ceremony. Oscar-winning singer Jennifer Hudson will also perform the US national anthem.
Spain have already booked their place in the final. They beat France 2-0 in the first semi-final in Dallas to advance to the title-deciding match. Their opponents in the final will be the winner of the second semi-final between England and Argentina. The England-Argentina match will be held at 8pm UK time.
