Defending World Cup champions Argentina will face England in the semi-finals today (Wednesday) in a bid to reach the final for the second time in a row. The much-awaited clash will begin at 1 am Bangladesh time. If Lionel Messi's team wins, they will once again secure a place in the World Cup final.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni did not give any specifics about the starting XI at the pre-match press conference. However, he indicated that some tactical changes may be made to the team considering the style of play of the opponent England.
Scaloni said, "We are thinking about some changes after analyzing the strength of the opponent. The goal will be to field the most effective XI. Everyone in the team is in good shape."
Although the coach did not mention the names of any players, it is expected that most of the footballers from the team that defeated Switzerland 3-1 in the quarter-finals will be in the starting XI. However, the possibility of a change in midfield is being strongly discussed.
According to various media reports, regular midfielder Rodrigo de Paul may be left out of the starting eleven this time. He has been substituted several times after failing to show the expected performance in recent matches. If De Paul does not play, Scaloni may give a chance to either Nicolas Gonzalez or one of Juliano Simeone.
If Nicolas Gonzalez plays, he will be responsible for the left wing. And if Juliano Simeone gets a chance, it will be a very surprising decision, because he has been in the starting eleven in only one match so far in the current World Cup.
There is also a competition in the defense. Nahuel Molina is considered to be slightly more likely to be in the right-wing defense than Gonzalo Montiel.
Argentina's probable eleven against England:
Emiliano Martinez; Nahuel Molina (or Gonzalo Montiel), Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martinez, Nicolas Tagliafico; Juliano Simeone (or Nicolas Gonzalez), Leandro Paredes, Alexis McAllister, Enzo Fernandez; Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi.
