Mexico continued their winning run in the World Cup, defeating South Korea 1–0 in their second group-stage match to become the first team to secure a place in the knockout round.

After opening their campaign with a victory against South Africa, the hosts carried their momentum forward but found the going tougher in the early stages against a spirited South Korean side led by Son Heung-min.

The match, played in Zapopan, began at a cautious pace from Mexico, while South Korea pressed high and created early pressure through quick attacking movements. Despite several attempts from both sides, the first half ended goalless.

Mexico, however, returned from the break with greater urgency and soon capitalized on a costly error from South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu. Attempting to deal with a cross, the goalkeeper collided with a teammate, failing to secure the ball. Striker Luis Remo reacted quickly, calmly tapping the ball into the net to give Mexico a 1–0 lead.

Following the goal, South Korea pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Mexico’s disciplined defensive organization kept them at bay. The hosts maintained control in the closing stages and held on to secure all three points.

With this victory, Mexico sit comfortably at the top of the group with six points from two matches, guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage.

South Korea remain second with three points from two games. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic and South Africa occupy third and fourth positions respectively, each with a single point.
