Awami League activities banned, fear of clashes around anniversary, nationwide warning

Police have been instructed to be alert across the country regarding the upcoming anniversary of the Awami League, whose activities are banned. An urgent message sent based on intelligence information has asked to assess possible programs and take necessary security measures. At the same time, the fear of clashes between different political groups has also been mentioned.
The police headquarters has basically instructed to take 'security measures' across the country on the occasion of the Awami League's anniversary. An 'urgent message' was sent in this regard on Thursday (June 18) in view of the party's anniversary on June 23.
The message sent to all metropolitan police commissioners and range DIGs of the country has asked to 'assess possible activities' of the party on the occasion of the anniversary. It is said that on that day, the Awami League may try to hoist the flag at party offices in different districts of the country and hold public processions with banners marking the anniversary.
As a result, it has been mentioned that there is a risk of clashes with other political parties in the country, especially NCP leaders and anti-discrimination students. It has also been feared that if these activities are obstructed, anger may be expressed against the law enforcement agencies. In this situation, it has been requested to consider the issues seriously and take necessary precautions and security measures.
Police officials said that this message has been sent across the country as part of an advance warning based on reports from multiple intelligence agencies.
When asked about this, DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam said that they have received a letter in this regard. However, he said, 'There is no specific threat or threat. We are alert.
He also said, 'There are various programs throughout the year. We have a big program ahead of us, Ashura on 10 Muharram. In addition, there is a party's founding anniversary on 23 June. Therefore, we are on the highest alert.
He also said that the police security measures will be maintained as in the past to ensure the safety of the city residents. Nazrul Islam said, "Our new plans, new security checkpoints and operations are ongoing and will continue."
On August 5, 2024, in the face of mass student and public agitation, Awami League President and then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India. Three days later, since the formation of the interim government, Awami League ministers, state ministers, top leaders and influential members of parliament have been arrested one by one. Several leaders of various parties allied with the Awami League have also been arrested.
Most of the party's senior leaders are currently in hiding. As a result, they are not seen in regular political programs.
Sheikh Hasina and other Awami League leaders are being tried on charges of crimes against humanity such as killing hundreds of people to suppress the movement. All types of party activities have been banned until the trial is over.
However, there are occasional reports of Awami League leaders and activists taking out processions in different places. The police have also reported that arrests have been made at various times in these incidents.
