US President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran tries to cut off oil supplies in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, they will be attacked 20 times more powerful than in the past.

In a message on social media on Monday (March 9), he made it clear that Iran will face dire consequences that will put the country's very existence in jeopardy if it disrupts global energy flows.

President Trump also warned that the United States will destroy all Iranian targets that will make it impossible for the country to rebuild. He tried to deter Tehran by using harsh words such as death, fire and fury, although he said that he personally prays that such a situation is avoided. At a press conference on the same day, he expressed hope for a quick end to the Middle East war, but did not specify a specific time frame.

On the other hand, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is adamant in its position. On Tuesday (March 10), a spokesman was quoted by state media as saying that if the US and Israeli attacks continue, “not even a single liter of oil” will be allowed to be exported from the region.

Iran’s intransigence and Trump’s devastating counter-threats have led to extreme instability in the global economy and energy markets.
