Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the government has taken the initiative to bring back the two accused arrested in India in the controversial Osman Hadi murder case. For this, the necessary diplomatic and legal process has been started under the existing extradition agreement between Bangladesh and India.
He said these things as the chief guest at the District Law and Order Committee meeting held at the Shaheed ATM Zafar Alam Conference Room of the Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner's Office on Monday (March 9).
The Home Minister said that we are trying to bring them back to the country by following the legal process under the extradition agreement between Bangladesh and India. He said that the necessary documents and formalities are being completed through coordination with the relevant agencies of the two countries. Once all the processes are completed, the government is working to ensure that they are brought to Bangladesh and brought to justice.
At the time, he also commented on the tendency to describe various recent incidents as mob violence and said that it is not right to call all incidents mob; in many cases, they are isolated crimes.
In his words, some incidents occur as isolated crimes. If someone is detained and tortured somewhere, that is a specific crime. It has a separate legal definition and legal action is taken accordingly.
He said, in the real sense, if the public takes the law into their own hands or public unrest is created, then it will be considered a mob situation and the law enforcement agencies will strictly control it.
The minister also said that there should be no mob culture in Bangladesh. There is no scope for punishing anyone outside the law.
Stating that the government is taking a strict stand against drugs and online gambling, he said that to build a drug-free society, drug trade, transportation, promotion and trade - everything must be stopped. All necessary measures will be taken in this regard.
Responding to a question about publishing the list of drug dealers, the Home Minister said that there is no plan to publicly announce the list. 'Public lists can sometimes be politically influenced or there is a risk of distortion. Therefore, information will be collected in a professional manner and action will be taken according to the law.'
In addition, the Home Minister also announced a new plan to improve the traffic system in Cox's Bazar city. He said that the number of new non-motorized vehicles will not be allowed to increase in the city and licenses will not be issued beyond the prescribed limit.
In addition, attention will also be paid to the fact that more than one vehicle cannot operate under one license. If damaged or immobile vehicles are removed, that number will not be replenished, as a result, the total number of vehicles will gradually decrease.
The Home Minister said that anti-terrorism operations have been intensified across the country. Armed terrorists, extortionists or any criminal will not be allowed to remain outside the law. Everyone will be brought under the law.
