Threat to kill Iranians is Trump’s admission of war crimes: Araghchi

US President Donald Trump's recent 'threat to kill Iranians' is essentially a clear admission of war crimes and crimes against humanity, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said.
He made this allegation in an official letter sent to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council and the Foreign Ministers of member states on Sunday (March 8). In the letter, Araghchi noted that Trump's arrogant statement is a gross violation of international law and it bears evidence of directly targeting innocent civilians.
Earlier, Trump warned Iran on his social media 'Truth Social' that areas or populations that have not been targeted so far will now be subjected to 'total destruction and certain death'.
In his letter, Araghchi said that more than 1,300 civilians have been killed in Iran since the US and Israeli attacks began on February 28. The attacks have destroyed 7,943 residential units, 1,617 businesses, 32 medical centers, 65 schools and 13 Red Crescent Society buildings, and about 9,669 civilian structures.
Iran's top diplomat stressed that Trump's remarks were not just a threat, but also an admission of responsibility for the devastation inflicted on the Iranian nation. He added that Iran will maintain its legitimate right to self-defense even if the UN Security Council fails to maintain international peace and security. At the same time, the US is obliged to pay full compensation for the loss of life and property caused by these ongoing violations, and President Trump will personally face international criminal responsibility.
In the final part of the letter, Araghchi called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to take urgent action. He said it was essential to hold the US and its president accountable to stop the ongoing war crimes and eradicate the culture of impunity. Otherwise, he warned, this pattern of violations of international law could become more normal in the future.
