France has asked the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting on the situation in Lebanon, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barot said.
According to local health authorities, nearly 400 people have been killed in Lebanon in the past week due to intense Israeli bombing.
Barot said France has allocated about $6.9 million in “emergency assistance for humanitarian agencies currently operating” in Lebanon and is preparing to send another 20 tons of humanitarian aid, which is due to arrive tomorrow.
The top French diplomat added, “We are continuing our discussions with the Lebanese and Israeli authorities to protect the country from chaos, ensure a ceasefire and continue the essential process of disarming Hezbollah.”
