Calls to reduce private vehicles and use public transport

The ongoing unrest in the Middle East has disrupted global energy supply. There is a risk that this will also affect the country's energy sector. An emergency review meeting was held on Wednesday at the initiative of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to deal with the emerging situation. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of the Ministry, Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku.

It was informed in the meeting that the supply of energy from various possible sources at the specified time and in the specified quantity has become uncertain. As a result, there may be temporary disruptions in the supply of energy according to the current demand within the country or there may be a need to coordinate supply. As a result, there is a possibility of a slight decrease in the production of electricity and fertilizer. However, it has been informed that utmost caution should be taken to reduce public suffering during the holy month of Ramadan.

The cooperation of the general public has been sought by the ministry to deal with the situation. In particular, a request has been made to reduce the use of private vehicles and use public transport. Emphasis has been placed on the responsible behavior of citizens in saving energy. In addition, instructions have been given to avoid all types of unnecessary lighting, calling for the economical use of electricity and energy.

The emergency directive said that traders and law enforcement agencies have been instructed to be proactive in stopping the sale of diesel and petrol in the open market. The district administration, police administration and Border Guard Bangladesh have been requested to take necessary steps to prevent fuel smuggling.

The ministry said that all possible measures have been taken to minimize the negative impact of the global situation. Efforts are ongoing to ensure supply from various sources to keep fuel procurement normal. The public has been urged to be patient and cooperate fully to make the steps taken by the government successful.

State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department, Chairman of BPC, Chairman of PDB and other concerned officials of the ministry were present in the meeting.
