Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) spokesperson and chairman of the party's election management committee Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has accused the Election Commission (EC) of bias. He made the allegation at a press conference at the NCP office in Bangla Motor in the capital on Saturday (January 17) evening.
Speaking at the press conference, Asif Mahmud said, "We expressed our concerns yesterday (Friday) as well. We are expressing our fear that this election is also heading towards the past 3 elections due to the Election Commission's one-sided or special treatment towards a particular group."
He said, "The constitution clearly states that if someone accepts foreign citizenship or expresses allegiance, he will lose the ability to be a candidate for the country's parliament. Despite this, we see many people going to the Election Commission and hooliganizing despite having dual citizenship."
NCP spokesperson and chairman of the election management committee said, each party is going to the Election Commission with 200 to 300 people. They are increasing the number of lawyers to put pressure on the Election Commission and taking hundreds of people. The Election Commission is also showing a tendency to give them legitimacy through various interpretations and loopholes. Which is a bad sign for our country, constitution, election system and above all democracy.
However, the National Citizen Party (NCP) said that it will not allow dual citizens to vote in any way, he said, we will not allow any foreign citizen to vote in Bangladesh. If the Election Commission tries to give them legitimacy in any way, then we will fight on the streets along with the legal fight. But we will not allow any loan defaulter-dual citizen to vote. Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan also warned that as a last resort, resistance will be created against the candidate in the relevant constituency if necessary.
