Death toll in Venezuela earthquake rises to 4,561

The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela in quick succession last month has risen to 4,561. 16,740 people were injured in the incident.
On Monday (July 13), the president of the country's National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, announced the latest casualty figures.
He said that 128,324 families affected by the earthquake had been provided with various types of assistance. In addition, 107 temporary shelters have been set up for displaced people, where 20,231 people are currently staying. However, 17,907 people are still without permanent housing.
Rodriguez said that 856 buildings were damaged in the earthquake. Of these, 190 buildings have completely collapsed, causing extensive infrastructure damage.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said that two powerful earthquakes struck the South American country of Venezuela on June 24. The magnitudes of the two earthquakes were 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, respectively.
Rescue and relief efforts are continuing across the country following the earthquake. Authorities said the work of rehabilitating the victims and removing the rubble is also underway. The government is also working to fully assess the damage and implement a reconstruction plan.
