In the context of the Iran war, Donald Trump has indicated that he will postpone his upcoming visit to China. He was supposed to hold an important meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping this month, which is now expected to be postponed by about a month.
President Trump said that due to the current war situation, it is important to stay in his country at this time. Noting that he is in regular contact with China, he said that he is very interested in meeting with Xi Jinping, but considering the importance of the ongoing war, the visit may be slightly delayed. According to Trump, staying in his own country is the biggest priority at this critical time.
However, the Trump administration has stated that there is no intention to put any pressure on Beijing behind the postponement of this visit. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has rejected the idea that this delay is being done to force China to activate the turbulent Strait of Hormuz.
He clarified in an interview with CNBC that there is no other purpose or condition behind the postponement of the visit. He termed the rumours circulating in the market as a "misinterpretation" and said that a decision will be taken based on the situation whether the tour will take place as per the pre-determined schedule.
