The war between Iran and the US and Israel has entered its third week. In this situation, US President Donald Trump said that talks are underway with Tehran to end the war, but Iran is not yet fully ready to reach an agreement.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday (March 15), Trump said, 'Yes, we are talking to them.' Although he did not elaborate on the nature of the talks, he added, 'I don't think they are ready (for a deal) yet. But they are getting very close.'
Trump also claimed that Iran is currently desperate for a deal. However, he himself expressed some hesitation about the deal, saying, 'I am not sure if I want to make a deal right now. Because first of all, you are not sure who you are talking to; most of their leadership has been killed.'
Trump's demand for talks was directly denied by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. In an interview with CBS's 'Face the Nation', he said, "We see no reason to talk to the Americans. We were still in talks with them when they decided to attack us."
Araghchi made it clear that the experience of talking to the United States was never pleasant. He claimed that Iran is stable and strong enough and they are only protecting their people.
It is worth noting that on February 28, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and dozens of high-ranking officials were killed on the first day of the deadly attack by the United States and Israel. Amid this huge leadership vacuum, war has spread across the Middle East and there is instability in the global oil market due to the crisis.
