US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to various countries of the world.

He said that he is currently in talks with at least seven countries to establish an international patrol or 'policing' system to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz. He sees the security of this channel as a very urgent initiative as it is one of the most important energy supply routes in the world.

President Trump said in very clear terms that he will closely monitor which countries are standing by the United States in this operation and which are avoiding it. Terming the matter as a 'very small effort', he said that it will be very interesting to see which countries respond to this call. He also gave a veiled threat that the United States will 'remember' those who do not come forward to help in this crisis.

He made these remarks while talking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday (March 15).

Trump's comments are believed to be creating a kind of psychological pressure on allied countries. He has brought up the issue of responsibility, especially for those who regularly import oil through this route. It remains to be seen whether other countries like Australia or Japan will change their positions after Trump's veiled threat.
