US President Donald Trump said he plans to postpone his planned trip to China by about a month due to the Iran war.
On Monday, he said, "It's very simple. There's a war going on. It's important for me to be here." He stressed that "there's no strategy here" and that he was looking forward to meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping.
A day earlier, he told the UK's Financial Times that he could postpone the meeting if China did not help normalize shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for Gulf energy transport.
Tensions between the world's two largest economies have increased over the Iran war.
China is a major buyer of Iranian energy exports and has criticized the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Meanwhile, the US announced an investigation into the trade policies of several countries, including China, after the Supreme Court overturned Trump's tariff policy in February.
