Indonesia has announced that it will suspend all discussions on a peace council initiative proposed by US President Donald Trump as military tensions in the Middle East rise.

On Saturday (March 7), Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said the decision to suspend participation in the initiative was made due to the recent increase in military tensions in the region, as this situation directly affects the foreign policy priorities of the countries involved in the initiative.

He said that international attention is now focused on the consequences of the conflict with Iran. In addition, Indonesia will hold close consultations with partner countries in the Gulf region, as they are directly affected by the ongoing attacks and rising tensions.

Indonesia's participation in the council has come under strong criticism from various political and religious groups within the country. According to them, joining the initiative led by the Trump administration could harm Jakarta's long-standing policy of supporting Palestine.
