New York City marked Thanksgiving Day with its signature mix of tradition, festivity, and massive crowds on Thursday, as millions celebrated one of America’s most beloved holidays.

The highlight of the day was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which brought giant balloons, marching bands, celebrity performances, and festive floats to the streets of Manhattan. Spectators lined the 2.5-mile parade route from the Upper West Side to Herald Square, many arriving before sunrise to secure a view.

City officials said security was tightened, with thousands of police officers deployed along the route and on rooftops to ensure a safe event. Despite the heavy security presence, the atmosphere remained cheerful as families and tourists gathered in the crisp autumn weather.

Beyond the parade, New Yorkers celebrated in homes and restaurants across the city. Many volunteered at community centers and shelters, serving traditional Thanksgiving meals of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie to those in need.

Travelers also faced one of the busiest days of the year, with packed airports, crowded train stations, and heavy traffic, as residents headed out to visit family or returned home after long journeys.

For many, the day was a reminder of gratitude, family bonds, and the beginning of the holiday season—officially kicking off with Black Friday sales and festive decorations lighting up the city.
