A case has been filed against UK MP Tulip Siddique on charges of plot fraud in the Purbachal new city project. The verdict in the case will be announced tomorrow, Monday (December 1). Apart from Tulip, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Tulip's mother Sheikh Rehena are also accused in the case.
A report in the British newspaper Daily Mail said that if the charges are proven, Tulip is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in prison. The charges against 43-year-old Tulip are that she got plots for her mother, brother and sister through Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, an investigation was launched against Tulip on charges of embezzling 4 billion pounds from the Rooppur nuclear power plant project. At that time, she was forced to resign as City Minister. In addition, the Daily Mail alleged that Tulip lied about her flat in London in a conversation with this newspaper three years ago. He said that his flat in London's King's Cross was a gift from his parents. Later, an investigation revealed that the flat was given by an Awami League leader.
However, the British government, after an internal investigation, said that Tulip did not violate any ministerial rule by lying about the flat. However, the investigation mentioned that he should have been a little more aware to prevent his 'damage to his reputation'.
However, despite these allegations, Tulip is still the MP for Hampstead and Highgate in the UK. Although he is being investigated and tried on various charges in Bangladesh, he has not yet been convicted in any case. However, that is going to change tomorrow. The Daily Mail mentioned that if he is convicted, he may have to face a tough challenge in the UK. This time, there may also be tension over his position as a member of parliament. Demands for his resignation may be strong again.
