The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has increased the prices of all types of fuel oil by Tk 2 per liter for the month of December 2025 under the automatic price adjustment system in the country. The prices were adjusted on Sunday (November 30) according to the revised pricing formula in line with the fluctuations in the world market.
This information was given in a notification signed by Mohammad Arif Sadek, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The new prices will be effective from Monday (December 01), the notification also said.
The government has increased the prices in the country's market by adjusting the prices due to the increase in fuel oil prices in the world market. The prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane have been increased by Tk 2 per liter for the month of December.
According to the new rates, the price of diesel per liter has increased by Tk 2 to Tk 104, kerosene by Tk 2 to Tk 116, petrol by Tk 2 to Tk 120 and octane by Tk 2 to Tk 124. The Energy and Mineral Resources Department issued a notification in this regard on Sunday (November 30) night. The new rates will come into effect from Monday (December 01).
It is learnt that the government started automatic pricing of fuel oil in line with the global market from March last year. Accordingly, new prices are being announced every month. Currently, in addition to setting fuel oil prices, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) also sets the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) every month in line with the international market.
According to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), the current annual demand for fuel oil is about 7.5 million tons. Diesel accounts for about 75 percent of the total demand. The remaining 25 percent of the demand is met by various fuel oils including petrol, octane, kerosene, jet fuel, furnace oil. Diesel is generally used in agricultural irrigation, transportation and generators. BPC always makes a profit from the sale of octane and petrol. BPC's profit and loss mainly depends on the sale of diesel.
Among fuel oils, BPC used to regularly adjust the prices of jet fuel used in aircraft and furnace oil used in power plants. Now BERC does it every month. And the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane are determined by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources. The Department of Energy said that apart from neighboring India, fuel prices are determined every month in the developed world.
The automatic pricing system for fuel oil was announced on February 29 last year as a condition for a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As a result of the introduction of the automatic pricing system for fuel oil, if the price of fuel in the international market decreases, it will decrease in the country and if it increases, it will also increase in the domestic market.
