The United States has indefinitely suspended the review of all immigration applications of Afghan citizens.
The United States has indefinitely suspended the review of all immigration applications of Afghan citizens. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced this on Wednesday (November 26) night.
This decision was made after an Afghan citizen shot and seriously injured two National Guard soldiers in the country's capital, Washington. US President Donald Trump has already called the shooting of the National Guard a 'terrorist act'. He said that the suspect who was detained arrived from Afghanistan in 2021.
Earlier, Trump ordered a re-examination of Afghan immigrants who entered the United States during the Biden administration.
Announcing the closure of immigration services for Afghan citizens, USCIS wrote in an X post, "Our sole goal and mission is to ensure the safety and security of our homeland and the American people."
In a related development, two National Guard members were shot near the White House in Washington, DC. They were seriously injured, said Kash Patel, director of the country's central intelligence agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser also said that this was a planned targeted attack. A person clearly opened fire at the Guard members. The attacker has been detained.
