Lionel Messi came to India on a tour. The Argentine superstar was supposed to visit these four cities of India from December 13 to 15, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, before returning to Barcelona. However, the tour schedule changed at the last minute. From Delhi, LM went to Bantara in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The Argentine forward went there at the invitation of Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
Pictures of Messi's various activities in Bantara are now viral on social media. From offering puja to seeing a lion, he did everything. Rodrigo de Paul, Luis Suarez and his wife Radhika Merchant accompanied him throughout the tour. There, Anant gifted Messi a watch, the price of which makes you dizzy.
The Ambani son gifted the Argentine World Cup winner a Richard Mille RM003-V2 GMT Tourbillon Asia Edition watch. The market price of which is approximately $1.2 million, which is worth 146.8 million taka in Bangladeshi currency. There are 12 watches of this edition in the whole world. Many see this gift as a symbol of mutual friendship and respect between Messi and Anant Ambani. Apart from luxury, it also indicates a personal relationship.
At the same time, Anant Ambani was also seen wearing another amazing watch - the Richard Mille RM 056 Sapphire Tourbillon. This watch, worth around $5 million, is known as one of the most expensive and rare watches in the world. In Bangladeshi currency, it is 611.8 million taka. All in all, Messi's tour of India was filled with madness and memories, as well as questions of organization, discrimination and luxury.
Apart from the Kolkata leg, Messi was given a grand welcome in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. He received tickets for the India-USA match of the T20 World Cup from Jay Shah, a cricket bat and an Indian team jersey at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi the day after yesterday. The bat and Indian team jersey were also given to Messi's travelling companions, Paul-Suarez.
Messi had said at the Arun Jaitley Stadium that day, 'What you have done in these few days is truly extraordinary. Thank you very much. I will definitely return one day. Maybe a match will be played. But I will definitely return. Thank you very much.' However, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar blamed Messi and his travelling companions for the chaos in the Kolkata leg.
According to many critics, on the one hand, stars like Messi, Luis Suarez, and Rodrigo de Paul are being brought to India at huge expense, while on the other hand, the country's domestic football league is being shut down due to financial crisis - this contradiction is not easy to avoid.
