The mini auction of IPL 2026 was held on Tuesday (December 16) at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Mustafizur Rahman is one of the biggest successes of Bangladesh so far in this battle to decide the fate of 369 cricketers. The left-arm pacer, who has a base price of Rs 2 crore, was a fierce battle between three teams at the auction table. In the end, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for Rs 9.2 crore.
After Mustafiz's name was mentioned in the auction, his former team Delhi Capitals was the first to show interest. Chennai Super Kings also did not delay in joining the fight. However, in the end, Shahrukh Khan's Kolkata won in a tough bidding war. The 'cutter master' is going to wear the KKR jersey for the first time.
This is his sixth franchise in his IPL career. He has previously played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.
Despite the hype surrounding Mustafiz, Taskin Ahmed was left disappointed. No team showed interest in the first call of the auction for this right-arm pacer with a base price of Rs 75 lakh. As a result, he has to remain unsold for now. In addition, the names of 5 more Bangladeshis on the auction list have not been called yet.
The potential schedule of the tournament has also come into discussion over the excitement of the auction. According to cricket-based portal Cricbuzz, the IPL mega event can be held from March 26 next year. The curtain of the tournament can come down on May 31 with the final. After the auction, the teams will have about three months to prepare the squad.
