When a teenager stepped onto the big screen in 2009 through South Indian star actor Mohanlal's film 'Sagar Alias Jackie Reloaded', many saw her as a future star. That teenager was none other than Pragya Martin, who is today's familiar face of South cinema. However, her long journey has never been smooth.

Pragya's film, which made her debut on the silver screen with Mohanlal, is basically a spin-off of the 1987 film 'Irupatham Nottandu'. Although it did not meet expectations, Pragya Martin caught the attention of the audience even with a small role. Later, she also acted in films with Malayalam stars Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Pragya started training in classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam at the age of five. It was only after she won a state-level award for her acting during her school days that she became convinced that the silver screen was her destination. Although she was not very interested in modeling at first.

Career turning point: ‘Pisasu’

Pragya’s career took a dramatic turn when Tamil director Mysskin approached her. Impressed by her in an advertisement, Mysskin cast her as a ghost in the film ‘Pisasu’ (2014). The film made her an overnight sensation. She then established herself by acting in films like ‘Ramleela’, ‘Kattapanaile Hrithik Roshan’ and the Tamil anthology ‘Navrasa’ opposite Suriya.

Ups and downs and recent controversies

However, along with success, Pragya had to face several challenges in her career. In recent years, her films have not done much at the box office. In the meantime, in October 2024, she faced controversy when her name was linked to notorious gangster Omprakash in a drug case.

Although Pragya had been denying the allegations from the beginning, the actress still had to face police questioning. However, the relief is that after proper investigation, the police declared her clean chit or innocent in this case on October 12. After being released from the case, Pragya is trying to build a new career. Although she is not seen in regular films like before, she has not completely retired from acting.

After overcoming the controversy, Pragya's fans hope that she will be able to focus fully on her acting career again.
