Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has denied reports of any direct talks between Tehran and Washington. He clarified that there are currently no formal or informal talks between the two countries.
However, he noted that the US is regularly sending various messages to Tehran through various intermediaries. According to Araghchi, exchanging messages through intermediaries is not the same as direct talks; therefore, this process cannot be considered as 'negotiations' in any way.
In his statement, the Foreign Minister firmly reiterated that Iran is not in favor of any war or conflict. Tehran wants a permanent and effective end to the current terrible situation. However, a ceasefire is not Iran's only goal. Araghchi said that Iran is demanding appropriate compensation for the extensive damage and destruction caused by this war.
He indicated that any future political solution or agreement must ensure accountability and include a commitment to rebuild damaged infrastructure. His statement essentially implied that Tehran would not agree to any proposal without an assessment of responsibility for the war and guarantees of a lasting peace.
