As the joint US-Israeli aggression on Iran enters its 17th day, their target has also changed. Now, not regime change in Tehran, the main target of Washington and Tel Aviv is to open the Strait of Hormuz, the global energy corridor. One-fifth of the world's total energy is transported through this route, but Iran has closed the sea route in response to the aggression.
US President Donald Trump asked for help from allies to open the vital waterway, but everyone turned him away empty-handed. Then Trump was disappointed when he asked for help from the Western military alliance NATO. This time, Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif made a joke about the issue.
Pakistan's Defense Minister has mocked the US war strategy in Iran, although Islamabad is currently presenting itself as a mediator in reducing tensions in the Middle East. In a post on social media, Asif questioned the aim of the conflict, which is to disrupt global energy supplies.
He noted that the main goal of the US-Israeli attack now seems to be to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before the war.
“The aim of the war now seems to be to open the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before the war,” he wrote on X.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transport routes, has been virtually shut down due to the Middle East war. In normal times, about one-fifth of the world’s total crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes through this waterway.
