Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for the joint attacks by Israel and the US. This has led to an energy crisis in the world. In such a situation, the US has temporarily lifted the sanctions on Russian oil.
The US Department of Commerce said that permits have been issued for the sale of Russian crude oil and petroleum products loaded on ships until April 11.
In 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine. In response, the US imposed sanctions on the country's oil.
US Secretary of Commerce Scott Besant said that the temporary sanctions on Russian oil have been lifted as part of President Trump's steps to stabilize the global energy market. In addition, this decision has been taken to counter the threat from Iran.
The US Department of Commerce said that Russian crude oil and petroleum products loaded on ships until March 12 will be able to be supplied worldwide without interruption until April 11.
20 percent of the world's oil is supplied through the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iraq ship oil and gas around the world through this narrow sea route.
