Jamaat-e-Islami MP (MP) Mujibur Rahman has objected to the custom of bowing or lowering one's head when entering the National Assembly session room. He raised this objection during a point of order in the National Assembly on Tuesday (June 16).
The MPs bowed their heads towards the Speaker's chair as a sign of respect when entering the Parliament session room, and many stood and saluted. Standing at the beginning of the meeting on Tuesday, Jamaat Nayeb Ameer Mujibur Rahman said that in the third National Assembly in 1986, the rules of procedure required bowing of head after entering the Parliament room. Then an amendment was made. Bowing of head is contrary to Islam and goes to the level of shirk. Therefore, it has been removed.
Addressing Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Mujibur Rahman said, "I sometimes notice that you salute beautifully. We also greet and respond. But later it turns out that the previous tendency is still there. You also have it, the Honorable Deputy Speaker also has it.
Everyone should follow the rule to ‘eliminate polytheism’ in the rules of procedure—commenting, the Jamaat MP further said, ‘There will be goodness in this, we will be able to stay away from sins, we will benefit from it in the hereafter.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that he will look at the rules of procedure and inform about this. However, it is a personal matter for everyone. Some will greet, some will bow their heads. This is the case in parliaments all over the world. He will also see whether it was abolished in the previous parliament or not.
