Bangladeshi student killed in road accident in Canada

A Bangladeshi student has been killed in a road accident in Canada. The deceased Bangladeshi student has been identified as Md. Istinab Mahi (23). He lost his life in a road accident in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, a province in North America.

The accident occurred at 1:32 am local time on Friday. The deceased Mahi's home is in Chittagong. He was in Canada for higher education.

According to the local police administration 'Royal Newfoundland Constabulary' (RNC), a car with four passengers lost control and overturned near the intersection of Mayor Avenue and Newtown Road in the St. John's area. The severity of the accident was so great that the car broke through the boundary wall of the Belvedere Cemetery next to the road and fell inside.

Upon receiving the information, rescue workers quickly reached the scene, rescued four people from the car and took them to the hospital. The doctor on duty there declared Mahi dead. The other three passengers in the car were injured, but they are currently out of danger and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The deceased Mahi is the son of Md. Mohib Ullah and Parveen Akhter of Chittagong. This talented student passed his SSC with GPA-5 from Chittagong Collegiate School (182 batch) in 2019 and HSC with GPA-5 from Chittagong College in 2021. Later, he got admitted to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the famous 'Memorial University of Newfoundland' in Canada. He was also serving as the 'Brand Ambassador' of Bangladesh at that university.

His untimely and tragic death has cast a shadow of deep grief among his family, relatives, classmates and the expatriate Bangladeshi community living in Canada. His teachers, classmates and friends are expressing deep grief and sorrow on social media.

Local police said that an investigation has already been launched to find out the exact cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the family has sought the cooperation of the concerned authorities to quickly repatriate Mahi's body after completing the legal process and formalities.
