India Today NE reports that top officials of the Indian Army have reviewed the security arrangements along the Bangladesh border in the Indian state of Tripura in the backdrop of the ongoing tense situation in neighboring Bangladesh. On Friday, senior officials of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Border Security Force (BSF) reviewed the security situation on the international border in the southern district of Tripura.

The officials inspected the border areas included in the Belonia subdivision and assessed the field-level preparedness along this sensitive border. Tripura shares an approximately 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh and a large part of this border is still unfenced.

The Indian Army's Eastern Command said that Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, visited a border post in Belonia along with senior military officers. There, he directly observed the ongoing operational preparedness along the border.

During the visit, Lt Gen Tiwari interacted with the troops on the frontline and reviewed the overall security arrangements. He appreciated the professionalism and high standards of preparedness of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and BSF personnel.

The Army Chief highly appreciated the dedication and vigilance of all levels of personnel in border security, a statement from the Eastern Command said.

The same day, Tripura Chief Minister Prof Manik Saha said that border security has been strengthened in view of the recent incidents in neighbouring Bangladesh and the state is fully prepared to deal with any situation. He made these comments on the situation in Bangladesh while talking to reporters after attending a government programme in Agartala.

Dr Manik Saha, who is in charge of the Home Department, said that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and is regularly informing the central government. He said that since this is an international matter, all reports have been sent to Delhi and the state administration is fully prepared. Referring to the security preparations, the Chief Minister said that a coordination program was held with the Indian Army a few days ago and measures have already been strengthened considering the borders and security.

Expressing confidence in the national leadership, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the top leadership of the country are there. They will take all necessary steps. He also commented that India is ready to face any challenge with the help of modern technology.
