US citizens in Middle East warned

The US Embassy in Jordan is urging US citizens to consider leaving the region amid heightened regional tensions.

In a security alert posted on social media on Saturday (August 1), the embassy said Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise extreme caution and increased awareness. They are also advised to be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and possible travel disruptions.

US citizens outside the Middle East are also being urged to strongly reconsider their travel plans to the region. The embassy warned that Iran and its proxies could target US interests abroad and that the overall situation in the Middle East is highly volatile.

In particular, the US embassy in Jordan has advised all citizens there to refrain from traveling to military bases in the country and urged them to follow government warnings and instructions from Jordanian authorities.

The security alert was issued amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran. CBS News reported that Washington is planning new attacks on Iran this week, officials said.

Earlier on Saturday, Kuwait said it had intercepted an Iranian drone that was about to strike a government facility and a civilian vehicle. On the same day, an unidentified projectile hit a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. However, there were no reports of casualties in either incident.
