Amit Shah allowed the attack on the students

The student movement in India's Lok Sabha has sparked renewed political tension. Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of approving police use of force against protesting students.

He made this complaint while participating in the discussion on the Anti Question Leak Bill in the Parliament on Wednesday. A huge uproar started around his speech.

Members of the ruling coalition strongly protested Rahul Gandhi's statement and demanded proof to support the allegations.

While addressing the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said that the police action against the peacefully protesting students at Delhi's Jantar Mantar was approved by the Home Minister's office.

He said, in a democratic country, the use of force to suppress the voice of students cannot be accepted. He demanded accountability for this incident to the members present in the Parliament.

Before Rahul Gandhi finished his speech, members of the ruling coalition turned up in protest.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said such serious allegations must be substantiated.

Members of BJP and NDA alleged that the opposition leader had leveled allegations against the Home Minister without any evidence. This disrupted the proceedings of the Lok Sabha for some time.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla intervened when the situation became heated. He reminded Rahul Gandhi that to file a complaint against a person in Parliament, he must have proper information and evidence. At the same time, he urged the parliamentarians to remain calm.

The controversy started around the student movement held at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on July 20. Alleging question leakage, students gathered there to demand transparency and accountability in the education system. Later, when they tried to move towards Parliament, they clashed with the security forces.

Police resorted to lathi charge, tear gas and other crowd control measures to disperse the protesters. There were complaints that many students were injured. This movement was led by the online organization Cockroach Janata Party.

Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk also supported the movement. The protestors demanded that strict action should be taken against corruption and question leakage in the examination system and the government should start a dialogue with the students.

Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi sent a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking an explanation for the police crackdown on the protesters. In the letter, he alleged that excessive force was used against the peaceful protesters.

He wanted to know how the use of tear gas and other force was authorized and who was responsible for it. He claimed that hundreds of protestors were injured in that operation. Meanwhile, the government side claimed that Rahul Gandhi's complaint is completely baseless.

BJP leaders said the police had taken necessary action to maintain law and order and the opposition was trying to portray the incident differently for political purposes.

Earlier Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid political controversy surrounding the student movement. At the time of his resignation, he said that he has taken this decision out of a sense of responsibility so that no anti-national forces can use the movement for their own interests.

In this new debate within Parliament, the student movement has once again risen to the center of national politics. Political analysts fear that the political conflict between the government and the opposition will intensify in the coming days.
