After resigning from the post of Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan was warmly welcomed by BJP and NDA alliance MPs when he reached the Indian Parliament on Monday. At that time, the Parliament premises became filled with slogans of 'Dharmendra Pradhan Zindabad'. However, the opposition party Congress has strongly criticized this incident.
Upon reaching the Parliament, Dharmendra Pradhan got out of his car and greeted everyone present with folded hands. Later, BJP and NDA MPs surrounded him. At one point, an MP put a traditional cap on his head and draped a shawl over his shoulders. They expressed joy and excitement in support of this Odisha leader.
Criticizing this incident, Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury said, 'They did the same thing to the convicts in the Bilkis Bano rape case. This is their habit.’
In 2022, the Gujarat government granted early release on the grounds of ‘good behaviour’ to 11 people convicted of raping Bilkis Bano and killing her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots. After their release, their relatives greeted them by feeding them sweets and touching their feet outside the Godhra jail. The incident sparked a huge controversy across the country.
Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as the education minister on Saturday in the face of more than a month of student protests over NEET exam question leaks and various irregularities in the education system.
The movement was led by the social media-based organisation Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The protests that began at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar later spread to different parts of the country.
In a statement published in X announcing his resignation, Dharmendra Pradhan said that he had sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the letter, he said, ‘The events of the last 10 days have deeply distressed me. This is not a matter of my personal dignity.’
He also said, ‘The youth of India are the real strength of the country. The youth of the country cannot be allowed to get trapped in a cycle of confusion.’
On the other hand, after the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) claimed that all their demands were accepted in the talks with the government. Therefore, they announced the withdrawal of the agitation that has been going on for more than a month.
