Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has criticized the US and Israel's military aggression in Iran. He also warned against attempts to change the regime in Iran. He also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the negotiating table.
At a press conference in Beijing on Sunday (March 8), Wang Yi said that the current crisis "will never be resolved" by using military force. He emphasized the need to resolve the crisis through diplomatic means instead of conflict. He also said that the world cannot return to a regime where "force is the only way out."
Regarding the US and Israel's statements on regime change in Iran, Wang Yi said, "The people there have no support for the color revolution or regime change in Iran. "Lasting peace is possible only through diplomatic negotiations," the Chinese foreign minister said. "The sovereignty of all countries, including Iran, must be respected and military operations in the Middle East must be stopped immediately to prevent the conflict from escalating and spreading to other regions." He said, "This is a war that should never have happened and is not helping anyone. Force does not provide a solution; armed conflict only increases hatred and creates new crises." Wang added that the people of the Middle East are the real owners of the region, so local countries should be allowed to decide the affairs of the region independently, without external interference. Meanwhile, a secret report by the US National Intelligence Council said that "even if the US launches a major military attack, Iran's military and religious power structure is unlikely to collapse easily." Stressing the need to resolve the issue diplomatically, Wang Yi said that all parties should return to the negotiating table quickly, resolve differences through dialogue, and work to ensure common security.
He added that China is ready to work with Middle Eastern countries to restore stability in the Middle East, ensure peace among people, and establish peace in the world. Earlier on Wednesday (March 4), Wang Yi said that China will send a special envoy to mediate as the Middle East conflict continues to escalate.
