The US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln has passed close to Iran.
The US has finalized a plan to attack Iran. Senior US military officials have informed the leadership of a Middle East ally that the attack could take place if President Donald Trump approves it. The ally has been told that the attack could begin today (Sunday) if the plan is approved.
An adviser to Arab governments and an informal adviser to the Trump administration on Middle East policy told US media outlet Drop Sight News, “This is not about nuclear weapons or missile programs. This is mainly about regime change.”
He said that the US is considering attacks on Iran’s nuclear, ballistic and other military facilities. At the same time, the country’s goal is to destroy the current Iranian government and especially the leadership and capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to one source, the Trump administration’s idea is that after the overthrow of Iran’s top leadership, the country’s people will take to the streets again and start protesting, which will ultimately lead to the collapse of the government. Two senior Arab intelligence officials told Drop Site that the US could launch an attack at any moment, based on the information they have.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Turkish leaders on Friday (January 30). Regional countries are trying to create a framework for secret or backchannel talks to advance a possible diplomatic solution, including a proposal for a trilateral meeting between the leaders of Iran, the United States and Turkey — with the aim of preventing a possible attack.
US President Trump also said that Iran is now talking “seriously” after realizing the possibility of an attack. Earlier, Iran’s top national security official Ali Larijani also said that preparations are underway for talks with the United States.
