Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the ruler of the Emirates Mohammed bin Zayed.

The murder of the controversial Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has come under discussion again. The US Department of Justice has released millions of secret documents of convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It has been shown that the sex offender exchanged several messages in the days following Khashoggi's murder in Istanbul, Turkey.

Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. Later, US intelligence agencies verified all the information and data and came to the conclusion that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had approved the murder.

A deep international crisis later arose around this murder. However, due to the Saudi crown prince's friendship with current and then US President Donald Trump, Mohammed bin Salman did not have to face much pressure in the end.

The documents released on Friday evening (January 30) include conversations between Epstein and a man named Anas al-Rashid about the Khashoggi killing. In a message to Epstein about ten days after the killing, al-Rashid described the killing as “ugly… very ugly.”

In response, Epstein wrote, “To me, this is indicative of something bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if MBZ (United Arab Emirates ruler Mohammed bin Zayed) set him up.” When Epstein pressed for more details, al-Rashid wrote, “It’s hard to say. The information was leaked very cleverly and… quickly… very quickly.”

He added, “It’s a media war now. I think the Saudis are losing to Trump if they don’t start defending themselves.” In my opinion, the best defense is the truth—even if it’s ugly.”

In another email, Epstein wrote that a “secondary source” told him that a person who participated in the operation had recorded a video on his phone. The device was then hacked and the footage was collected.

In another conversation on October 13, 2018, Epstein raised more questions. There, he called Khashoggi a “terrorist” and raised the issue of a “failed covert operation” or “trap plan.” During this conversation, he repeatedly mentioned Mohammed bin Zayed.

According to the documents, Epstein received a message that night from an acquaintance. It said that Mohammed bin Zayed had requested an “urgent” meeting. He planned to leave the next morning. However, the name of Epstein’s “acquaintance” was blacked out in the documents.
