U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is now highly interested in reaching an agreement with the United States. He also said Washington gave Tehran a one-week humanitarian window to hold the funeral and burial of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following his death.
Trump made the remarks during a special address marking the launch of celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence. In his lengthy speech, he highlighted U.S. military strength, the country's global influence, and a range of current international issues, according to a report by Al Jazeera.
During the speech, Trump asserted that the United States had defeated Venezuela in a short period and had carried out a powerful military campaign against Iran. He argued that Washington's tough military actions had prompted Tehran to seek a compromise or agreement with the United States. Trump also said Iran had been granted a one-week humanitarian period to complete Khamenei's funeral and burial out of humanitarian consideration.
Iranian authorities did not immediately respond to Trump's remarks. His claims have also not been independently verified by any impartial source.
