Top lawmakers of the opposition Democratic Party have expressed strong doubts and anger over US President Donald Trump's planned potential peace deal with Iran. They have called the deal a major defeat for the United States and effectively a 'surrender document'.
California Senator Adam Schiff criticized Trump's initiative on the social media X (formerly Twitter), writing, "The president says the war is over. I hope Trump's words come true. But there have been many such words before and there is a record of countless broken promises." Schiff also complained that Trump has started a new war but has not been able to reduce its costs, which has deeply hurt the American people.
On the other hand, Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton called the potential deal one of the worst deals in US history. In an interview with MS Now, he said, "This is a terrible deal. It is essentially a surrender document submitted by Donald Trump to the Supreme Leader of Iran."
Moulton expressed his anger, saying that this war has already cost US taxpayers $100 billion and 14 American lives. However, in return, an agreement is being made that will only reopen a sea channel that was open before Trump started this "stupid" war. He claimed that after so much damage and money spent, this cannot be accepted as a victory for the US.
