Brazil began their FIFA World Cup campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Morocco, forcing the five-time world champions to settle for a single point in their opening Group C match.

Following the match in New Jersey, Brazil defender Danilo admitted that his side were fortunate not to concede more goals, particularly after a poor first-half display.

"The pressure and nerves had a major impact on our game in the first half. In a tournament like the World Cup, that can be very costly," Danilo told reporters. "We should be grateful that the score was still 1-1 at halftime."

Morocco put Brazil under pressure from the outset with aggressive pressing and quick attacking moves, repeatedly exposing weaknesses in the Brazilian defence. According to Danilo, the team fell short both technically and tactically.

"We performed poorly in almost every aspect during the first half," the 25-year-old defender said. "There were shortcomings everywhere. We created problems for ourselves through our own mistakes. Fortunately, we did not concede another goal."

Brazil showed signs of improvement after the break, particularly following a series of substitutions. The team enjoyed greater possession and looked more threatening going forward.

Danilo praised the contribution of the substitutes, stressing the importance of squad depth in a major tournament.

"Players on the bench must always be ready. When the opportunity comes, they have to make an impact. Today, we tried to do exactly that," he said.

Despite the disappointing result, Danilo believes there were positive takeaways from Brazil’s second-half performance. He said the team must learn from its mistakes and respond strongly in the next match.

"The game gave us a second chance. We managed to reorganise ourselves, regain control of the ball and create opportunities. That is the biggest positive we can take into our next match," he added.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti also reflected on the team's performance after the draw, as the South American giants opened their World Cup campaign with one point in Group C.

Brazil will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Haiti as they seek their first victory of the tournament.
