Messi’s team appoints new coach

Lionel Messi's team Inter Miami has announced the name of its new head coach. Cristian 'Kili' Gonzalez has been appointed as the team's new coach, replacing Guillermo Hoyos. 

Gonzalez, a former Argentina international who once played alongside Lionel Messi, takes charge at a difficult time for the team, with Miami on a winless run and desperate to stay in a good position before the end of the season.

Inter Miami have made a swift move to overcome their recent poor form. They have appointed former Valencia and Inter Milan winger Kiley Gonzalez as their new coach. The club confirmed the news on Thursday. Gonzalez will replace Hoyos, who was appointed permanent manager after a successful interim stint. However, Miami are now winless in five consecutive matches.

The club said in a statement that the new coach was not ready to take the field right away. "Gonzalez will officially take over once he has received the necessary work permits. Guillermo Hoyos will remain in charge of the team temporarily until the new coach and his coaching staff arrive," the statement said.

One interesting aspect of the appointment is the long-standing relationship between Gonzalez and club captain Messi. They played together for the Argentina national team in World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay in 2005. This has become a regular feature of Messi's MLS career, as he has had some kind of relationship with each coach who has taken over during his time in charge.

Messi has a good personal relationship with the 52-year-old Gonzalez, but his record as a coach is questionable. He has previously managed Argentina's top-flight teams Rosario Central, Union de Santa Fe and Platense. However, he has yet to win a major trophy as a coach. There is no doubt about his reputation as a player, however. After a stellar career with Zaragoza and Valencia in La Liga, he joined Serie A giants Inter Milan.
