Infantino could face tough challenges: UEFA president

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has explicitly ruled out running for the FIFA presidency in the upcoming elections. However, his comments suggest that current FIFA president Gianni Infantino could face a tough challenge in next year's elections.

Infantino has come under fire in international football after a controversial plan to sell parts of the World Cup to private investors emerged. There are also reports that many national football federations are losing faith in him. Even UEFA chief Ceferin disagrees with the FIFA president's stance.

However, Ceferin has said he has no intention of standing as Infantino's replacement. He feels more comfortable working at UEFA and feels that staying in his current role is more suitable for him.

Ceferin believes that a new candidate could enter the fray against Infantino in the FIFA presidential election to be held in March. According to him, Infantino has lost support not only among political circles but also among footballers, coaches and fans. As a result, it will not be easy for him to compete in the election.

Ceferin also strongly objected to the proposal to sell parts of the World Cup to private investors. According to him, this plan was worse than the much-controversial European Super League initiative in 2021. If such a plan were implemented, the UEFA chief commented that "football itself would be sold".
