The trial of the late football legend Diego Maradona for medical negligence is underway. An Argentine health insurer has admitted to major errors in the medical examination documents submitted to the case. It has been learned that the medical reports presented in the investigation into Maradona's death were actually those of his father.

\In a letter seen by AFP on Monday (August 24), Swiss medical authorities said that the medical commission investigating Maradona's death had mistakenly submitted some medical examination documents in the name of Diego Armando Maradona. However, the documents actually belonged to his father, Diego Salustiano Maradona, who died in 2015.

Last week, the lawyer for one of the seven health workers on trial in Argentina, who have been on trial since mid-April, alleged that Maradona's death was caused by medical negligence.

Maradona died of cardiac arrest about two weeks after undergoing surgery for a brain hemorrhage in November 2020. At the time of his death, he was also suffering from acute pulmonary edema, a condition in which fluid accumulates in the lungs.

The ongoing trial into Maradona's death is expected to last until at least September.
