Antonella has been by Messi's side in every chapter of his life. Antonella is the cousin of Messi's teammate Lucas Scalia in the Newell's youth team. They met in childhood. Later, due to Messi's football career, they separated, but maintained contact via email. Messi officially introduced Antonella as his girlfriend just before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Their first child, Thiago, was born in November 2012. Then, in September 2015, their second child, Mateo, was born. Leo and Antonella tied the knot on June 30, 2017. Their third child, Ciro, was born in March 2018.
In an intimate interview with Argentine streaming channel Luz TV, the Inter Miami captain revealed how he keeps his relationship with Roccuzzo full of love through small everyday things.
Messi said, "I don't show a lot of emotion, but I have a romantic side. Sometimes we can't be together for most of the day. Then I leave small gifts so that she knows I'm thinking of her." Messi, laughing, admits that he is a little uncomfortable writing handwritten letters or notes, "I feel comfortable expressing my love through work."
Messi also said that Antonella is much more emotional and expressive than him. At one point, they had discussions and even disagreements about this issue.
Messi said, "We talked, we discussed this issue (emotionality) once. Because I didn't like it, she stopped expressing her emotions like before, then the atmosphere changed. At one point, I told her, "You're not the same as before."
