British Defense Minister John Healy said that if given the chance, he would have taken Russian President Vladimir Putin out of Russia and held him accountable for war crimes. He made the remarks during a one-day visit to Kiev on Friday (January 9). Hours before, Russia launched a massive missile attack across Ukraine.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump launched a military operation in Venezuela to remove Nicolas Maduro. This has drawn worldwide criticism. Now the British Defense Minister has threatened to take out the Russian president Maduro style.

According to the British media outlet The Telegraph, John Healy met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Presidential Palace in Kiev. There, he announced that Britain would spend 200 million pounds on training troops as part of preparations for a possible peacekeeping mission.

Visiting the site of a drone strike on a residential building in Kiev, John Healy told the Kiev Independent that if he had the opportunity to kidnap a world leader, he would have taken Putin into custody and held him accountable for war crimes. His comments came after the US detained Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to John Healy, Putin's war crimes include the massacre of civilians in Bucha and Irpin and the abduction of Ukrainian children. After Bucha was liberated in April 2022, mass graves were discovered there. In May 2024, John Healy visited the memorial built to commemorate the victims of the massacre.

In March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin on charges of abducting Ukrainian children. Hundreds of Ukrainian children, including orphans, have allegedly been forcibly evacuated to Russia.

Visiting the destroyed buildings, John Healy said that Putin was not just trying to wage war, but was targeting civilians, cities and infrastructure in the dead of winter. "This man must be stopped, this war must be stopped," he insisted.
